What is Ōtautahi Speed Skating?
Ōtautahi Speed Skating Club has been set up as one of the skating sports under the well established Ōtautahi Rollers.
Our speed skating club is a brand new club to Christchurch and offers children and adults of all abilities the opportunity to learn to skate in a fun and social environment. Whether you just want the enjoyment of skating, the great fitness it gives you, or the the opportunity to compete at local, national or international level, we offer it all.
Speed skating is broken down into 3 elements; road racing, banked track racing and flat track racing (indoors). It can range from 100m time trials right through to marathon racing, not to mention the ever fun relay racing.
So, why don't you come along and find out for yourself?
You just need your own pair of inline skates, a bike helmet and gloves and we will teach you the rest.
When? Training/Fun sessions Monday’s 4.30-5-30 and Wednesday’s 5-6pm.Masters are held 6pm to 7pm on Wednesdays.
Where? At Hornby Rollerdrome 19 Garvins Road, Christchurch, 8042.
What is the Hornby Rollerdrome ?
Exciting news! Ōtautahi Rollers has taken over the lease. We are keen to make this a thriving community facility again and bring the Rollerdrome back to its glory days. The Rollerdrome was the place to be seen in the 80's. It has a speed skating bunked track and an inside court to learn how to skate on the flat. We have big ambitions for this venue so watch this space!
