WHO WE ARE

We are an inclusive, fun and determined group of people who are passionate about Roller Derby. We welcome all derby lovers to join the Otautahi family, and are dedicated to being friendly, personal, and respectful of what each individual brings to the whanau.

The mission of Otautahi Roller Derby is to provide a safe and supportive environment to play Roller Derby in Christchurch.

HOW WE ROLL

As part of the Otautahi Roller Derby family, we are characterised by three commitments:

Commitment to each other

We are dedicated to being a friendly, courteous and considerate whanau, who warmly welcomes newcomers. We work as a supportive and encouraging team, and facilitate an environment where mistakes are ok while progression is recognized and celebrated. We respect each others’ contributions and show gratitude for individual and group efforts. For the good of the team, we are dedicated to upholding protocol, communicating well with one another, and being positive, humble and non-judgemental.

Commitment to derby

Both individually and as a league, we are dedicated to the game of roller derby. As a league we are dedicated to the progression of derby in New Zealand, and preserving an amiable relationship with the wider roller derby community.

Individual skaters also show a commitment to roller derby by arriving at practise on time, with a positive attitude and prepared to skate. We are committed to improving our understanding of the sport and the WFTDA / MRDA / JRDA rules and protocol to which we aspire.

Commitment to ourselves

We are committed to our own fitness and progression, and determined to giving our personal best effort. Each member will ‘check themselves’ before participating, and will take responsibility for their own attitude. We will come with a positive, humble attitude and be receptive and respectful to others.
